What Makes Hair Shine
Hair is coated with a layer of sebum a natural oil produced by sebaceous gland lying next to each hair follicle in the scalp.
The sebum gives the hair its shine and also protects it from losing its own moisture content. The amount of oil secreted by the sebaceous glands determine whether the hair is dry, greasy or normal.
At the same time use of harsh shampoo, or dry windy weather can strip the natural oils from the scalp and hair leaving it dull and dry.
The secretions of the sebaceous glands are controlled by hormones circulating through the blood vessels in the scalp. Hormonal shock periods, such as puberty, adolescence, after childbirth and the menopause may greatly affect the condition and appearance of the hair.
Managing Oily (Greasy) Hair
Mainly due to hormonal problem, the sebaceous glands tend to become overactive and produce too much sebum.
• Avoid too much brushing of hair because it might further stimulate the oil glands that are already over-active.
• Wash your hair every third or fourth day or even more frequently, depending on individual comfort. A good nourishing liquid shampoo is often the best answer.
• Excessive oiliness if neglected can lead to falling hair. If treated in time it can be prevented.
• Wear your hair in easy-to-manage, well cut style. Light perming can help as it lifts the hair slightly away from the scalp, making it less easy for the sebum to travel up the hair shaft.

Hairstyles That Complement Eyeglasses
There is no doubt that eyeglasses should complement, not compete with, your hairstyle. When you go to sort through the huge array of eyeglasse frames to find a shape that works with your hair, the shape of your face and your personality, remember, the most suitable frame shape is the opposite of your face shape. Angular-shaped faces look better with rounder frames. Softer, fuller faces are enhanced with sharper-edged frame shapes.
Try to match the frame colour to the tone of your hair. Silver, gold, grey, tortoiseshell, etc. Some may like funky colour combinations - try them on and see how they suit. Opt for one that enhances skin tone and hair shade.
The focus should be to keep hairstyles, simple. Complicated curls and fussy accessories give a cluttered look to the face. A good hairdresser will take the wearing of glasses into consideration when suggesting a hairstyle.
Here are a few guidelines when choosing eyeglass frames.
» The main consideration is balancing the volume and shape of your eyeglasses with your hairstyles. Identify the strongest elements of your hairstyle and then choose a frame that matches.
» A classic hairstyle is one that needs minimal styling and is one length over all the head. This style is best suited to frame shapes that have also stood the test of time. Simple round or square eyeglasses are good options.
» A strong trendy style, demands eyeglasses that can hold their own. For example, bangs that are little more than a high fringe require eyeglasses with, strong lines. Ovals squares with triangular edges, the ones you might have worn as a kid, work wonders.
» A classic chignon or ponytail at the nape of the neck gives you many choices for eyeglasses frames. Merely choose a style that suits the shape of your face.
» Continue the circular motifs of curly hair in your eyeglasses. Round or oval frames look beautiful. Square frames on the other hand, are too much of a contrast. Since, even short curly hair has movement, choose frames that don't have a lot of detail.
» Large eyeglasses cover quite a bit of the face. This isn't a problem, as long as you keep your hair under control. Otherwise people will ask who's hiding behind those glasses and all that their. One simple step is, cutting off long bangs. Very small frames are unflattering on older faces - look for a medium or larger-size frame which will help camouflage the eye area and its wrinkles and bags.
